Newcastle Permanent Volunteer of the Month Winners Announced for May

June 26th, 2017

Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) is pleased to announce the Newcastle Permanent Volunteers of the Month for May 2017 across the zones.

“Clubs simply cannot run without the contribution of people like this month’s winners,” NNSWF Community Football Manager Peter Haynes commented.

“Their ongoing contribution to their club has been outstanding and should be celebrated!”

“Each of their clubs is a better football club for the contribution these volunteers have made through her passion, hard work and willingness to ‘roll the sleeves up’ and help to provide the best football experience possible for the club’s players, parents and spectators alike,” Haynes concluded.

Each winner will be awarded a certificate recognising their achievement, volunteer jacket, and bag, courtesy of Newcastle Permanent, to assist in fulfilling their valuable roles at their respective clubs.

From the pool of monthly winners, a “Newcastle Permanent Volunteer of the Year” for each Zone will be recognised at the Northern NSW Football Annual Awards Night.

Newcastle Permanent Acting Chief Executive Officer Mark Williams echoes Haynes sentiments and applauds the volunteers who received the award.

“We are delighted that a local volunteer has received this award and been recognised across Northern NSW for the incredible commitment they make to community football,” Williams said.

The May Newcastle Permanent Volunteer of the Month Award recipients from across each of its seven Member Zones are as follows:

Gary WHisker

Nimbin Headers Sports Club Inc

Football Far North Coast

Gary has been treasurer of the Nimbin Headers for 10 years now. His dedication to the Nimbin Headers is unreal. He is a soccer fanatic and his contribution to the club goes way above the hard work of a treasurer. Gary actively participates in the important decision for the club, he orders most of our equipment, shirts and liaises with Football Far Not Coast to deal with important issues regarding the club, etc.

Gary often organises friendly matches with other soccer teams in the surroundings, strengthening our bonds in this big football family.

He has recently taken the position of coach for our Grade 6 players. We are glad someone like Gary will be forming future players and transmit his passion for the sport.

He deserves so much respect from the Nimbin community and is an example of generosity and caring.

I am positive that all the Nimbin Headers members, past and present, and a lot of people involved in the Football Far North Coast would recommend Gary as Newcastle Permanent Volunteer of the Month.

Michelle Kelly

Cundletown Jets

Football Mid North Coast

For the last 5 years, the club had been run under the control of 1 individual. This year, a new committee took over and had to learn from scratch. Michelle was appointed as the secretary. As the season has built up, our President has not involved herself as much, the registrar has had to tend to a family member due to a serious, life-threatening illness, the Treasurer ruptured his patella tendon, and so on.

Michelle has picked up the slack across the board. She has taken the responsibilities of the President when dealing with meetings and serious issues when they arise. She coordinates the registration of new players and team allocations. She manages the canteen, ensuring supplies are maintained. She is there when the canteen opens and mans it till it closes. She manages the collection of match fees, uniform sales and has organised for all committee members, managers and coaches to be kitted out in club shirts. As well as manages the takings from the weekly canteen. She is the prime contact between the club and FMNC. She was the person that organised the club to take part in the ALDI Mini Roos, pre-season skills development. She also is a part contributor to managing the club’s Facebook page. Also, from week to week, when someone is away, or sick, she just fills in for them, no questions asked.

She has become the backbone of the club, yet it is done with little recognition of what she has taken on and deserves recognition.

Hunter Valley Football

Sharon is the backbone of the club. She is there for set up and packs up every home game. She helps all committee members with their roles including doing all her own. I feel without her the club would not be successful.

Cindi Redpath

South Cardiff Junior Football Club

Macquarie Football

Cindi is a single mum who most weekends has to be at 3 or 4 grounds to watch her own kids play, she is always on the ground setting up, working in the canteen, helping coaches organise their teams on game day, making sure that club referees know what games they are refereeing and if one of them can’t make she will organise another. On top of that, she also works in the canteen. Cindi is always there at the end of the cleaning and packing up. If Cindi wasn’t there it would be a huge loss.

Charles McCumstie

Seaham Bowthorne Football Club

Newcastle Football

Charlie has stepped in to take over from Tim Griffiths as our Club Secretary. Tim and his wife Leanne started our club 17 years ago along with their team of friends and at the end of last season, they officially retired. Without Charlie taking over Tim’s job our Club may have been unable to continue to provide an opportunity for so many people to enjoy their football every weekend. Charlie has taken over the reins expertly and is giving up so much of his time to make sure the transition is very successful. People within our Club would hardly realise that there has even been a change. He is a true volunteer with a focus on the children and a great commitment to his local community.

Matthew Godwin

Coutts Crossing Football Club

North Coast Football

Matthew has gone above and beyond in helping the Coutts club build a clubhouse. We currently have a building with no change rooms etc. Matt has worked long hours to make sure everything is at the best price and done by the best people.

Donny Lewington

Tamworth Football Club

Northern Inland Football

Donny has been involved with Tamworth FC for a number of years and has become increasingly active in committee roles within the club. Donny is on the Tamworth FC committee and continually provides valuable experience and insight into the junior sport. Donny is proactive in organising the ordering of Tamworth FC merchandise and playing strips for Tamworth FC teams.

Donny doesn’t just stop at being a committee member. He is also a coach of an Under 6’s team and an Under 12’s team, as well as having four kids playing with the club. Donny is a valuable asset to Tamworth FC and Football in general.
