NEW Girls-Only ALDI MiniRoos Leagues Commencing in Far North Coast

May 31st, 2018

Opportunities for female participation across the Football Far North Coast (FFNC) region continue to evolve with the introduction of girls-only ALDI MiniRoos age groups in season 2018.

Northern NSW Football (NNSWF), specifically through the strategic appointment of a female participation officer several years ago, has sought to create more awareness about the positive outcomes that can be achieved by providing girls’ teams and leagues that had historically not existed in ages 5-11. Delegates from each of the 24 member clubs were invited to convene with NNSWF and Football Far North Coast last September, with a clear enthusiasm expressed to introduce girls only ALDI MiniRoos Leagues this season.

Mullumbimby Brunswick Valley FC (MBVFC) was one of many clubs that embraced the desire to promote more girls’ participation and invigorated by rebel Female Football Week in March, more impetus was given to forming girls only teams. Sharon Scriven from MBVFC, who was recognised for her outstanding work in encouraging girls football in recent years, echoed the thoughts of many.

“Our club is delighted to form three girls ALDI MiniRoos teams as this is a great achievement for a small, community club in regional NSW,” Scriven said.

“It has been fantastic to see various clubs actively support girls only teams and we hope that this is the start of much more participation for girls.”

Northern NSW Football Female Participation Officer, Holly Ayton will be visiting Football Far North Coast in early June to support more efforts aimed at supporting girls only ALDI MiniRoos leagues. Holly will facilitate a coaching certificate course at Skennars Head on Friday night 15th June.

“It will be a practical session to help coaches and parents understand how to deliver a fun and engaging training session designed in an appropriate way for girls,” Ayton said.

“In addition, this will give the coaches and parents a chance to meet up and talk about their experiences with girls only ALDI MiniRoos leagues so far in 2018. I look forward to speaking personally with club coaches and volunteers and highlight that the session is free, very practical and will definitely be fun for parents who attend.”

This certificate is aimed at coaches and parents of girls who are currently playing (or who will hopefully sign up next year) in one of the girls’ only ALDI MiniRoos Leagues.

It will be an introduction to learning about how to support the players and their environment and will provide an opportunity for coaches and parents to discuss the upcoming leagues.

The certificate will be a 90-minute course, all practical and is completely FREE. The themes of the session are;

–    Just letting the children play, that’s how they will learn

–    How to maximise player engagement by providing a challenge

–    Animating practices to make football FUN

–    New ALDI MiniRoos for Girls Leagues
