Newcastle Permanent Grand Final Series Summary

September 19th, 2016

Football Far North Coast has reached the end of the 2016 winter competitions, with the last grand finals played and champions crowned.

Bangalow SC is celebrating a unique achievement after their men’s Premier Division team claimed the Cyril Mayo Trophy with a 1-0 victory over Pointscore Champions Goonellabah. This win gives the Bluedogs the pigeon pair of trophies at the top level, after their women’s Premier Division team claimed their title last weekend. In that game, Women’s Premier Division Player of the Year Hollie Jarrett was named the “Lisa Casagrande Medallist” for being best on field, while Bangalow’s Rory Devlin was named the “Terry Greedy Medallist” for being player of the match in the men’s Premier Division grand final.

Brilliant weather, big crowds and marvellous football were the highlights of the Newcastle Permanent Grand Final Series, which extended over seven days and nights and was spread across three weeks. Supporters were overwhelmingly enthusiastic, respectful and appreciative of participants and match officials across the 30 grand finals that were played. With proud parents, grandparents and other family members looking on, clubs from across the length and breadth of the zone represented the strong state of our game within the region.
