Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) is pleased to announce the Newcastle Permanent Volunteers of the Month for April 2018 across the zones.
“Without volunteers, like this month’s winners, football simply would not be in the position it enjoys as Australia’s largest team sport. Their contribution to their clubs have been outstanding and deserves to be recognised. I am pleased that NNSWF is able to thank and acknowledge each of them on behalf of the sport,” Community Football Manager, Peter Haynes said.
Each winner will be awarded a certificate recognising their achievement, volunteer jacket, and bag, courtesy of Newcastle Permanent, to assist in fulfilling their valuable roles at their respective clubs.
From the pool of monthly winners, a “Newcastle Permanent Volunteer of the Year” for each Zone will be recognised at the Northern NSW Football Annual Awards Night.
Newcastle Permanent Chief Executive Officer, Terry Millett echoes Haynes sentiments and applauds the volunteers who received the award.
“Newcastle Permanent’s Community Football Awards provide opportunities to recognise volunteers who generously give back to their clubs and communities. It is great to see a local representative being recognised for their ongoing commitment,” Millett said.
The April Newcastle Permanent Volunteer of the Month Award recipients from across each of its seven Member Zones are as follows:
Nathan Scully
Casino RSM Cobras

Nathan Scully has been involved with Casino RSM Cobras FC since he was about 6 years old and has maintained a consistent involvement for more than 25 years. His role as a player and coach has evolved to being a hands-on committee person. Nathan was the club’s MiniRoos Co-ordinator before taking on the role of vice-president and inevitably as club president in 2018. Football participation numbers at Casino are more than 400 players this season and Nathan is acutely aware of the importance of promoting sport within the Casino community, particularly as the Cobras are the only soccer club for the local kids. The vision that Nathan has for the club is to create strong values, positive engagement and even better governance and processes and with the support and professional skills of his wife Kristy, Nathan is intent in trying to progress such objectives. Having a long-term commitment to his club and to his community, Nathan Scully is a worthy winner of the Volunteer of the Month for April 2018.

Kris does an amazing job in her Facebook Admin Officer keeping our club community informed of everything that happens at the club. She works tirelessly to ensure our members are informed accurately of any new information. She also ensures that our coaches have done our working with children checks and helps us through this process. As the coaching Coordinator, I feel this is such a vital job!

Luke never stops he lives and breaths our little club which this year has seen us gain a record number of registrations! He also coaches his daughters undefeated all girls team 2 years running! Luke has no problem dropping everything to ensure everyone is happy and accommodated to the best of his ability. He’s the first to raise his hand in helping out and it’s a huge honour to be able to work beside him. He’s the first one there come game day and the last one to leave (besides me who runs the canteen haha).
Luke’s work as the Club President never stops for 12 months of the year, whether it be an email at midnight to organising meetings, he’s at the ground most days even if it’s only to move the sprinklers on a daily process, myself I am the clubs coaching director and Junior VP and his input and knowledge of all things has been an invaluable help, he is not just that either, he will assist parents with any issue that arises including emotional and financial support, he’s a dad, a coach and a friend to many involved in the club, Luke exemplifies how a community club should be run and organised and I have no hesitation in nominating Luke .
Matt Rolston

Matt has been at the Stockton sharks for many years and part of the junior club And also plays in the senior part of the club. Matt has donated all his time making the club it is today. Matt is involved in everything that makes the club run and has put his heart and soul into making Stockton junior soccer club such a successful and growing club that it is today. Matt is the club secretary, so he is involved in everything behind the scenes as well as everything from making sure the grounds are good to play on Saturday morning to make sure all teams have a uniform and all new members have everything they need to start or continue ready to play soccer. Matt is on the ground every afternoon that there is training on to make sure everyone has what they need and lights are turned on. Matt gets involved every week at training with all the under 6,7,8,9 and wherever else he can help. Matt doesn’t have children at all he does this for the pure love and dedication he has for the town and for soccer to make sure every child feels like they are a superstar. Matt takes all the kids under his wing and guides them in the right direction.
Matt is truly awesome and he is one of the reasons this club will continue to grow bigger and better in the coming years!

Like most clubs, the backbone of a successful club comes from committee and volunteers. There is no person more deserving of this recognition than our secretary Kristen.
Kristen would be the first person to nominate someone else for their contribution to the club but the club would not be where it is today without her unwavering dedication, support and leadership she gives to officials, coaches, managers, parents and most importantly the children.
Kristen strives for perfection in everything she does for the club, the amount of time she invests, not only during the season but in offseason is amazing.
She is always looking for ways to gain improvements to our facilities and grounds with local councils.
I could go on and on about all the things she does for our club, but at the end of the day she deserves the recognition and deserves to be awarded Newcastle Permanent Volunteer of the Month.

Dan puts in so much time to the club in all of his various roles. Dan does all of this quietly and does not expect anything in return. Dan does this for the love of the game and the Club. Dan puts in a lot of his spare time into the club when he could be spending it with his wife and three children. If there is something that needs to be done, Dan will step in and make sure it happens. Dan is also solutions focussed and will come back with ideas for improvements.

Troy has been on the Committee for GIDFA for a couple of years now. He was thrown into the deep end in his first year, as the Division Leader for the U/6’s (one the hardest groups to organise). He took over the Gear Steward and line marking job and has worked tirelessly to get grants for equipment upgrades. He spent a whole afternoon cutting up and welding some old goalposts to make some compliant sized ones for our carnival that was on the next day. He is very handy and saves us a lot of money by doing lots of little jobs that we would normally have to pay for.
