Helen Moseley and Chloe Kapalos are taking their next steps along the coaching pathway by helping the next generation of talented northern NSW female stars.
Northern NSW Football is celebrating National Female Football Week this week, recognising the contribution of women and girls to the beautiful game across the region.
Moseley was with North Coast Football SAP and Kapalos with Wallsend FC’s Herald Women’s Premier League program when they were awarded inaugural Northern NSW Football C-Licence Coaching Scholarships for Women in 2019.
Moseley and Kapalos have continued their coaching development, with the pair involved recently with Northern NSW Football’s talent identification and selection process for the 2021 national girls’ championships.

The pair are also in consideration to be on the NNSWF coaching staff for the championships.
NNSWF Head of Football Development Peter Haynes said Kapalos, who has moved on to coach at Newcastle Olympic, and Moseley were excellent role models for female coaches.
“Helen and Chloe are dedicated, they’re eager to learn and they’ve obviously gone through the coach education process which isn’t an easy thing to do when you’re in a male-dominated environment,” Haynes said.
“They’re both confident young women in terms of their ability. We see potential in them and we’re keen to help them progress whether that’s more involvement in camps, tournaments or the Talent Support Program.
“They’re definitely two coaches for the future.”
Haynes said that, along with the scholarships initiative, NNSWF had more exciting goals to achieve regarding women in coaching.
“By the time we get to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup here in Australia and New Zealand we want every female team that we pick to have a female coaching staff,” Haynes said.
“Over the next few years we’ll keep involving our talented female coaches in as many programs as possible to keep building their experience as part of the process.
“On top of the scholarships there is an increasing number of women registering to complete community and advanced coaching courses which is really encouraging.
“It’s important from our end because awarding scholarships is only one part of it. We’ve also got a role that we continue to develop coaches to keep that learning going and place them in positions so they can get some experience as well.
“We want to get more girls like Chloe and Helen involved in coaching our best players. That’s what it comes down to.”
Five more up and coming female coaches were awarded the 2020 Northern NSW Football C-Licence Coaching Scholarships for Women in December following the initial intake of 12 coaches, including Moseley and Kapalos, in 2019.
The scholarship was established to provide funding assistance to female coaches to complete the FFA/AFC C-Licence advanced coaching accreditation.
The Northern NSW Football initiative will also help increase the number of advanced accredited coaches within NNSWF.
Each scholarship includes a $1,000 contribution towards the course fee for either the FFA C-Licence Youth or Senior course.
