Football set to return powerfully in 2022

February 11th, 2022

The Football Far North Coast season returns in 2022 with start of the annual ANZAC Day Cup & Callan McMillan Memorial Shield competitions.

Fifty-five teams will return to the football pitch from the 25th and 27th February competing across seven Tursa Employment & Training ANZAC Day Cup & Callan McMillan competitions.

Action in the Men’s Premier League will see newly promoted Mullumbimby Brunswick Valley FC joining the nine teams from last year’s Men’s Premier League. South Lismore FC will be looking to retain the ANZAC Day Cup title that the club won last season and to again etch its name on the prestigious shield that was first contested in 1950, when Methodist United won the competition.

Seven teams have nominated for the Callan McMillan Memorial Shield ‘A’ Division, which is sure to provide plenty of intrigue for players and supporters alike. The ever improving Byron Bay FC side will be looking to defend its 2021 title, but can anticipate strong competition from the six other teams, that will each be looking for a good start to the new season.

The Men’s Open A competition will see ten teams competing against each other for the title. The change in competition regulations in 2020 to allow the inclusion of players from the Championship has elevated the standard and depth of the Open A and a majority of last season’s Men’s Championship League teams take their place in the competition this year. In addition, teams from Casino RSM Cobras FC, Tintenbar East Ballina FC and a second side from Ballina SC will form the list of contenders.

Men’s Open B is again represented by the largest contingent of teams in any of the competitions, with 12 nominated. The Men’s Open C competition that was first played last season, will see six teams playing in this competition this year. Open C is aimed at providing participation opportunities for players who were graded in League 6 or League 7 last season.

Six teams have nominated for the Callan McMillan Memorial Shield ‘B’ Division that exists for senior female players who were graded in League 3, 4 or 5 in 2021.

FFNC wishes all teams and players an enjoyable start to season 2022 and we remind ALL participants (players, team officials and volunteers) that they must be registered in each specific role online in PlayFootball prior to participating.

We again thank our valued strategic partner Tursa Employment & Training for the continued support of these important pre-season competitions and more broadly for the local.

The pools for each competition can be found here.
