Please be advised that ALL Anzac Day Cup and Callan McMillan Memorial Shield fixtures scheduled for this weekend (being Friday night 7th March and Sunday 9th March), are now POSTPONED. These fixtures will be variously scheduled for Friday 21st March and Sunday 23rd March, with the changes posted to the FFNC website today.
This decision has been made in response to the extreme weather (i.e. Cyclone Alfred) that continues to pose a significant threat to the region and is anticipated to intensify over coming days. While we hope that the forecasted winds of up to 155kms per hour and moderate to major flooding, do not eventuate, our community must necessarily prepare for the impact of such dire conditions. Safety of people is the primary consideration and Football Far North Coast has made a decision in this situation based on a risk assessment of various factors.
News this morning that the NSW education department has closed 121 schools from the Clarence Valley north to the Queensland border and inland to the Kyogle Shire and further, many businesses and residents having initiated an emergency plan in advance of the predicted adverse weather and flooding, is evidence of the broad concerns that exist. Football QLD has suspended all football activity across South East Queensland, effective from 8am today (5th March) until further notice and we extend our positive thoughts to people in every community that is anxiously watching the movement of Cyclone Alfred.
We urge everyone to be very cautious over coming days and please stay safe. Football will return in due course and during these circumstances, the well-being of individuals and a focus on supporting our community during difficult times, is the priority.
