The Tursa Employment and Training ANZAC Day Cup Open A and Open B Finals were finally contested last weekend in a double header at Nimbin Headers FC. Both finals had already been washed out on two previous occasions this season (once in April and then in August) due to adverse weather conditions.
The Open B Final commenced proceedings with a confident Nimbin Headers side buoyed by the home support, seeing off a late charge from Goonellabah FC (Team 1) to claim the final 2-1. The Open A Final saw Suffolk Park FC take a 2-0 advantage in the second half, before a spirited fightback from the Headers saw the scores levelled at 2-2 with only minutes remaining. However, a late strike that crept under the Headers custodian was enough to see Suffolk Park FC retain the Open A title.
The conclusion of these finals brings an official end to the pre-season competitions, and we again thank Tursa Employment & Training for their long and ongoing support for community football.
