Become a Referee in Time for Christmas

November 23rd, 2021

Football Far North Coast are urging people to become a match official for season 2022. As player numbers continue to be strong, with over 7000 players again registering in 2021, the challenge is for current and past players, coaches and supporters to consider becoming a match official.

Most match officials come from clubs (e.g. current or ex-players) and the expectation from participants is that referees (and assistant referees) should be appointed on every game, which is currently unrealistic due to the lack of interest from individuals to become a referee or because many referees choose to cease officiating after each season.

Football Far North Coast will be running a Level 4 New Referees Course in December at Ballina, as follows;

Date: Saturday 4th December 2021
Time: 8:30am – approx. 3:30pm
Venue: Saunders Oval, Ballina – Corner Kerr and Swift Streets, Ballina

Registrations for this course CLOSE seven (7) days prior to the course date.

Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) will again offer the Referee Starter package, which is fully supported by Football Far North Coast. The starter package eases the financial burden to become a match official, with participants who register as an active match official (following the course) entitled to receive the following items and benefits for a payment of $150;

  • Level 4 Referee Course materials
  • Laws of the Game Book
  • Professional Referee Whistle
  • Assistant Referee Flag
  • First year referee green shirt
  • Black Umbro on-field Shirt
  • Black Umbro on-field Shorts
  • Black Umbro on-field Socks
  • Set of Red and Yellow Cards
  • Match Record Book and Inserts
  • Full Match Official Registration with FFNC (includes the Northern NSW Football & Football Australia Match Official Registration Fees)
  • FFNC Match Officials Polo Shirt (to wear to and from games)

This represents a subsidy of over $100 for all new match officials!

The amount of $150 needs to paid upfront to Northern NSW Football prior to the course. If payment is not made at the time of registration, NNSWF will issue an invoice after receiving your course registration (which must be paid prior to the course).

Please contact FFNC if this upfront cost is a prohibitive factor in registering for the course.

Please email Luke Mackney at referees@ffnc.net.au if there are any questions or any issues.
