Football Federation Australia (FFA) has today announced Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) will again host the nation’s most prestigious Youth football tournament for boys and girls in Coffs Harbour for the next three years.
In the wake of FFA’s announcement, regarding NNSWF’s successful tender to host the FFA National Youth Championships for Girls and Boys, NNSWF is looking forward to once again hosting the tournament for a further three years from 2015-2017.
The National Youth Championships are FFA’s primary national football competition for the 13 and 14 Years Boys, and 13 and 15 Years Girls. The competition will see teams from each of the State Federations of the FFA compete over five days, with the FFA National Youth Championships for Girls taking place in July and the FFA National Youth Championships for Boys in September.
“This is a great result for football in this Region,’ Northern NSW Football CEO David Eland said. ‘We have hosted these Championships since 2006 working closely with Coffs Harbour City Council, their Sports Unit and the local community. To host the Championships for a further three years is a great outcome for all concerned, none more so than our young male and female players from across Northern NSW who will have the opportunity to play in Australia’s most prestigious youth tournament here in their own backyard.”
The 2015-17 NNSWF bid was supported by long-time partner, Coffs Harbour City Council and Sports Unit, along with Destination NSW, with both recognising the significance of the tournament as a catalyst for tourism and economic benefit in the Coffs Harbour region and wider NSW and the partnership facilitating a strong bid.
“This is another great result for Northern NSW Football and Coffs Harbour,” Coffs Harbour Mayor, Councillor Denise Knight said. “The C.ex Coffs International Stadium has hosted these Championships since 2006 on what the FFA believes to be one of the best playing surfaces in Regional Australia.
“But it wasn’t just the Stadium that secured the Championships for another three years, it was also the welcome the players and fans always receive from the Coffs community, the great visitor facilities we can offer as a region and the strong support shown by the business community too.”
FFA Head of National Performance, Luke Casserly, congratulated Northern NSW Football on their successful tender and is looking forward to seeing the FFA National Youth Championships continue to be hosted in Coffs Harbour until 2017.
“There were a number of strong tender applications to host the FFA National Youth Championships for Girls and Boys,”
“We assessed each tender submission on a number of criteria including financial, logistics and partnership support.
“Based on these criteria, the Northern NSW Football submission was by far the best with on strong budgetary efficiencies, significant Local Government investment, support for facilities and tournament administration, as well as a demonstrated track record for conducting successful National Championships.
“We congratulate the Board and Management of Northern NSW Football on their successful submission and look forward to them hosting successful tournaments in the future,” concluded Casserly.
