Football Far North Coast has again put out a ‘Call to Arms‘ to urge more individuals, particularly adults, to step forward and become a match official in advance of the 2026 season.
Although it is the most popular sport in the region by participation, there continues to be a critical shortage of accredited match officials. Unfortunately, this places more pressure on the volunteers at club level to find a suitable ‘club’ referee to officiate fixtures where a referee is unable to be appointed.
Whether you have played in the past, currently play, or simply enjoy watching the game, officiating allows you to stay involved in a meaningful and impactful way. It earns you some extra money, keeps you fit and active, sharpens your decision-making skills, and builds confidence through the development of leadership skills like effective communication and working as a team, all whilst giving back to the game you love.
A brief overview of the steps to gain accreditation is provided below
- An individual candidate must be aged at least 13 and must complete the six basic online (free) Laws of the Game modules.
- The candidate then works through further four comprehensive online modules (cost of $33);
- The candidate registers and subsequently completes a practical session (cost $150* TBC by Northern NSW Football for 2026);
- Match Officials register with Football Far North Coast each season when their accreditation is confirmed;
- Match Officials are appointed to appropriate level fixtures in 2026.
NOTE that a candidate must have at least commenced the online modules before registering and attending a practical session.
