Celebration, Respect, Purpose

September 5th, 2023

Local football is close to its conclusion after a long 2023 winter season and each of the junior grand finals have been contested. Congratulations to the girls and boys across the region, who not only displayed some fantastic skills, but who, in almost every situation, demonstrated wonderful sportsmanship. How inspiring it is to see our youth play the game with passion, fairness and respect. A huge spectator turn-out has been present at most venues and a message for parents and coaches particularly, is that the influence of adults sets the tone well beyond the sporting arena. The opportunity exists to be strong role models and while a ‘winning’ result is desirable, sport is about much more.

We now turn our attention to two weekends of football to complete the senior grand finals for 2023. The hope is that the balance of season 2023, brings the community together, through football, to highlight a substantially better year than the last three. No Covid, no floods, barely any disruption due to rain and almost 7000 players and many more thousands of people actively involved with local football.

THANKS AGAIN to club volunteers for their selfless efforts and THANKS to every person who brings a purposeful and constructive influence to community sport. The collective contribution ultimately defines us, so let’s celebrate with respect and purpose as season 2023 draws to a close.
