Dunoon United Football Club has been announced as the Newcastle Permanent CLUB of the YEAR for 2017 in Northern NSW.
This announcement was made at the Northern NSW Football Awards Night last Saturday evening in Newcastle, with Dunoon United FC being selected from 235 clubs across the 7 regions in Northern NSW. The criteria for being nominated as Club of the Year was based on factors other than simply results on the field, as a community engagement initiative driven by Newcastle Permanent. Dunoon United FC has been able to demonstrate that it has embraced important strategies, including the promotion of female participation, coach education and Girls Only MiniRoos.
Club vice-president Scott McNeill proudly accepted the award at the glittering function and acknowledged the achievement on behalf of the club and the community of Dunoon. The club’s membership increased from 209 in 2016 to 245 in season 2017 with an impressive 41% of players this season being female. Dunoon United FC has achieved Level TWO National Club Accreditation and will soon be the FIRST Northern NSW Football Club to embark on its Level THREE accreditation.
Club president Rob Gatt said that he was humbled that the club was considered worthy of being nominated and absolutely delighted to hear that the club had won this award. “We have a group of energetic volunteers who work tirelessly to provide a positive participation experience at Dunoon and this award is a testament to their efforts.” Mr Gatt said. The Dunoon United FC volunteers worked closely with Football Far North Coast in 2017 over a period of six days and nights and two weekends, to help deliver what was described by many as arguably the most successful Football Far North Coast Newcastle Permanent Grand Final Series ever convened in the zone.
