Temperatures in Newcastle and regional areas throughout Northern NSW are forecast to reach 42°C on Saturday 1 February and 43°C on Sunday 2 February.
It is important that the safety of participants is considered and people take necessary actions to keep cool and avoid over-heating and for clubs running activities to understand the relevant policies and guidelines.

*Please note: This policy, also applies to those games played at Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility. If a NNSWF Match Day Coordinator is present, they are responsible for the application of the policy. Their decision is final.
Clubs and Zones are required to refer to the weather forecast for their area and closely monitor conditions and make appropriate decisions regarding postponement or cancellation of football activities as per the Policies, subject to local conditions.
LIGHTNING
Storms and lightning are common occurrences during summer and lightning can cause serious injury and death. In the event that a storm is approaching, it is important to closely monitor conditions and refer to the NNSWF Lightning for information regarding safety and the postponement of football activities.
AIR QUALITY
The air quality in some parts of the state may still be poor due to recent fire activity.
Clubs and zones in these areas should refer to the AQI readings for the local area and make appropriate decisions regarding cancellation or postponement of football activities.
It is the recommendation of NNSWF that when AQI readings are in Very Poor or Hazardous levels that football activities be postponed or cancelled, or alternative indoor activities arranged.
In the event that extreme weather conditions or poor air quality is present during football activities, parents and/or players should make their own decision about whether they participate and Clubs and Zones must not penalise anyone who chooses not to attend or participate due to health or safety concerns
