Female Football Week officially kicked off last week and is celebrated during the period 3rd to 12th May, in recognition of the incredible contribution that female footballers, coaches, volunteers and match officials bring to football.
Clubs across Football Far North Coast have organised activities including club BBQ’s/picnics, open training sessions, interviews with female leaders, and the inclusion of their youngest female players as game day mascots for their competition teams.
On the back of a historic FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, the female participation rate has soared locally with an incredible 33% of all participants (players, coaches/team officials, volunteers and match officials) being female. The rise and rise of female football is particularly evident in MiniRoos (ages 5-11) with 70 all-girls teams participating which is well beyond the previous highest number of 46 all-girls MiniRoos teams in 2023.
Football Female Week continues to celebrate women’s football through to Sunday 12th May.
