Sustained wet weather since the start of the 2025 season has regretfully seen football activity seriously impeded, with many of the 8000 players and most of the 676 teams across the 25 member clubs, yet to get onto the field of play. The bizarre weather patterns that have included the effects of Cyclone Alfred back in March, continue to taunt efforts to get winter sport played with any continuity thus far.
Football Far North Coast now has a logjam of close to 300 competition fixtures that have been postponed over the past month, as a consequence of persistent rain that has rendered most fields sodden and necessarily CLOSED (including for training).
Despite another frustrating start to a season, FFNC continues to work through the rescheduling of postponed competition fixtures, however it seems increasingly likely that a ‘Plan B’, will again include a modified season and a modified finals series, (in some form), as has been required each season (except in 2023) and since the impact of covid in 2020. Beyond the challenge of delivering a meaningful season for competition football, FFNC is very aware of the importance of providing participation opportunities for our youngest players.
Regretfully, finding a logical option to deliver the target of 15 games for MiniRoos players (ages 5-11) in the season, will again be exceptionally difficult, because miniroos games are not re-scheduled (if they are washed out). The Football Far North Coast Coles MiniRoos season will conclude on Saturday 30th August. We encourage clubs/parents/coaches to support the various Club Coles MiniRoos Gala Days to provide more participation opportunities for the kids.
The conditions predicted for this weekend are again of concern. Football Far North Coast is committed to doing everything reasonable to support participation, however the vagaries of weather conditions, are beyond our influence. We urge everybody to be patient and know that parity of football activity will return at the earliest opportunity.
On behalf of FFNC, I wish to THANK everyone for the resilience shown during these exceptionally challenging times. Our community has demonstrated admirable resilience over several years, despite the impact of many obstacles. Football stands committed to supporting club volunteers and every stakeholder, who each contribute to keeping the Beautiful Game vibrant at the grassroots.
