Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) is pleased to announce the Newcastle Permanent Volunteers of the Month for June 2016 across the zones.
“Volunteers are the backbone of our game and essential to the success of grassroots football,” Community Football Manager, Peter Haynes said.
Each winner will be awarded a certificate recognising their achievement, volunteer jacket, and bag, courtesy of Newcastle Permanent, to assist in fulfilling their valuable roles at their respective clubs.
From the pool of monthly winners, a “Newcastle Permanent Volunteer of the Year” for each Zone will be recognised at the Northern NSW Football Annual Awards Night.
“Each of the June winners have been chosen for their contribution and commitment to their club and ensuring that their club is an enjoyable, safe and inclusive place to participate,” Haynes said.
Newcastle Permanent Chief Executive Officer, Terry Millett echoes Haynes sentiments and applauds the volunteers who received the award.
“Newcastle Permanent’s Community Football partnership provides opportunities to recognise volunteers who give back so much to their clubs and communities. It is great to see a local being recognised for their ongoing commitment,” Millett said.
All member clubs will be able to nominate their fantastic volunteers via the link below and provide their details and a brief description of their contribution to football.

We look forward to receiving your nominations for our hard working volunteers!
The June Newcastle Permanent Volunteer of the Month Award recipients from the seven Member Zones are as follows:
Mellesa Bennett
Coffs Coast Tigers FC
North Coast Football
Mellesa goes above and beyond in her roles at the Tigers. She is always the first to put her hand up to help out in whatever way she can. As well as her roles as president and junior registrar, Mellesa coordinates the Under 6s training, making use of the national curriculum drills each Thursday. She also trains an Under 11s team who were short of a coach. Mellesa is constantly looking for ways to better develop the club with fundraising (currently organising a miniroos gala day). Mellesa is dedicated and committed and only ever a phone call away. Her dedication, commitment, and passion for football is shown in the many, many, tireless hours she puts into the club.
Kate Stuart
Kurri Kurri JFC
Hunter Valley Football
Kate is one of the great volunteers, not only is she our club secretary, she also helps with our registrations. As we have no one running our canteen, she is also helping running it and does all of the shopping. As club president, I would not be able to manage or run the club without Kate.
Deirdre May
Tamworth FC
Northern Inland Football
Deirdre has been Tamworth FC’s Treasurer since the club was formed in 2008. Deirdre continually performs above and beyond in managing Tamworth FC’s accounts. Deirdre ensures that registration fees are paid by players, invoices are paid to suppliers and professional reports are produced for monthly meetings. Deirdre has gone a step further in the last couple years by producing budgets for the upcoming seasons.
Chanine Boaden
Wauchope SC
Football Mid North Coast
Chanine is a brand new volunteer to the Club for 2016. Her children have been members for the past 5 or so years and love soccer! Chanine could see the Club struggling this year with roles and responsibilities and put up her hand for the Club Secretary Role. Chanine has also taken on the role of Shared Canteen Manager and has been amazing these past few weeks. Without Chanine, the Club would have really struggled to get up and running for the 2016 season. We suspect that Chanine has spent hours and hours each week helping members, answering enquiries. Every Saturday Chanine is at the canteen and never complains, always smiles and we receive many many good reports from families and community members. Chanine is passionate about retaining and growing the Wauchope membership club and we thank her with all our heart. Chanine is a very worthy award recipient, please consider.
Steve Towner
South Lismore FC
Football Far North Coast
Steve is the president of South Lismore FC, a role that he has held for nearly 20 years having previously been treasurer and registrar after first becoming a committee person at age 19. The Towner name is synonymous with South Lismore FC with Steve and his late father Barrie, both bestowed Life membership for services to the club. The family connection continues today with Steve’s daughter Sally and son-in-law Jeremy now on the club’s committee and grandchildren playing. While Steve’s playing days ended many years ago, his career included attending the Under 17 State Titles and he was a talented and competitive player in the top tier competition locally for two decades. Steve was also previously a Director on the Soccer Far North Coast and later Far North Coast Boards where his wisdom and desire to progress the game has made a valuable contribution to the game. Steve Towner is a genuinely hardworking, passionate and dedicated person whose contribution to community football deserves special recognition.
Molly Jordan
South Wallsend FC
Newcastle Football
Molly has proudly stepped up to the role of Canteen Supervisor/Coordinator at Southy to give back to the Club where she has grown up. Molly is only young and still attends High School so for a person of her age, who could be simply be doing ‘what she wants’ and not getting involved, it is refreshing to see a young person who has moved through a club to become a volunteer. Clubs certainly need this type of enthusiasm to inject into the volunteer ranks. Along with her Canteen duties, Molly also plays for the Club in the WPL so certainly, understands the benefits for players when a Club’s Volunteer Army is working to capacity. With a drivers license now in her possession, Molly fills in for Secretary Angela (Mum) in pickup and drop off jobs that Club Secretary’s do each. Keep up the effort Molly your Club needs you and others like you for the future.
Jane Oakley
Warners Bay FC
Macquarie Football
Jane puts a great deal of time in, as do all volunteers but many hours are in her own time. Jane is a tireless worker for Warners Bay FC. She is a hard working Registrar and is always around on game days to assist and make sure the day runs smoothly.
