Grassroots football clubs are being invited to apply for grants under the second round of Asian Cup Legacy Funding which opens today.
Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres said the $4.1 million fund will help deliver better community facilities to local football clubs across NSW.
“I encourage local football clubs to apply for up to 50 per cent of the cost of building amenities or upgrading facilities, with a funding contribution of $50,000 – $150,000 per project,” Mr Ayres said.
“We know that improving local sports infrastructure helps build stronger communities and improves participation amongst children and adults alike.”
The $4.1 million NSW Asian Cup Legacy Fund is a joint initiative of the NSW Government, Football NSW and Northern NSW Football. Sixteen clubs successfully applied for $1.8 million in grants during the first round of 2016/17 applications.
More than 1,000 affiliated football clubs are now eligible for more than $2.3 million in funding for round two 2017/18 applications.
Football NSW Chief Executive Stuart Hodge said; “The decision to allocate a surplus from the Asian Cup competition to community football improves the overall experience for the 765,000 football participants in NSW through social, health, educational and cultural benefits.”
Northern NSW Football Chief Executive David Eland said; “Projects that are eligible include upgrades or developments to existing pitches, amenities and facilities, including irrigation, seating, canteens, lights, fencing, change rooms and storage spaces.”
NNSWF Clubs have already shared in the first round of funding from the Asian Cup Legacy Fund. NNSWF Member Club who have been successful in the first round of grants include Cooks Hill United FC and Northern Inland Football.
