Over recent seasons opportunities for female footballers have expanded with the introduction of AIA Vitality MiniRoos for Girls allowing young girls to get involved in football via specific leagues and girls only programs. 2016 has seen 87 AIA Vitality MiniRoos for Girls teams playing club football across Northern NSW, 77 of these playing in specific girl’s only competitions. Alongside this, over the past 4 years, over 1000 young girls have participated in Northern NSW Footballs introductory football program, AIA Vitality MiniRoos Kick-Off for Girls during Summer.
AIA Vitality MiniRoos Kick-off for girls provides girls aged 5-11 with an introduction to football in a social and relaxed environment. This allows girls to build confidence while learning the skills of the game without the added pressure of winning or losing.
Research conducted by Northern NSW football and Football Federation Australia has found that:
– Most girls play football and other team sports primarily for the social engagement
– The competitive aspect of football is secondary to friendships and fun
– For some girls being part of a team comprised mostly of boys can be detrimental to their football experience and is a factor in their decision to stop playing
Participation in one of Northern NSW football’s AIA Vitality MiniRoos Kick-Off for girls programs is the perfect choice for young girls wanting to start out on their football journey or simply learn some new skills over Summer.
Our AIA Vitality MiniRoos Kick-Off for Girls program consists of a 1-hour session per week for 10 weeks during term 4 (week starting 13th October). Each session consists of a skills segment focusing on the 4 core football skills and game. The program is split into two stages with a specific training plan for younger girls aged 5-8 and one for girls aged 9-11.
Participants receive a special AIA Vitality MiniRoos starter pack consisting of:
– Backpack
– Ball
– Drink bottle
– A-League/W-League trading cards and;
– Official A-League/W-League supporter booklet
Participants also have the option of purchasing their very own exclusive MiniRoos Kick-Off for Girls jersey, available only to AIA Vitality MiniRoos Kick-Off for Girls participants.
Locations for 2016 programs include Armidale, Coffs Harbour, Cooks Hill, Garden Suburb, Grafton, Lismore, Maitland, Port Macquarie, Speers Point, Tamworth, Forster, and Wallsend.
