Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) is pleased to announce the Newcastle Permanent Volunteers of the Month for March 2017 across the zones.

“Finding volunteers as passionate and selfless as this month’s winners are the goal for all sporting clubs across the country,” Community Football Manager, Peter Haynes said.

“Their contribution has been key in the continued success of the club and it is very pleasing to be able to recognise the effort and hard work they have provided there over the years.”

Each winner will be awarded a certificate recognising their achievement, volunteer jacket, and bag, courtesy of Newcastle Permanent, to assist in fulfilling their valuable roles at their respective clubs.

From the pool of monthly winners, a “Newcastle Permanent Volunteer of the Year” for each Zone will be recognised at the Northern NSW Football Annual Awards Night.

Newcastle Permanent Chief Executive Officer, Terry Millett echoes Haynes sentiments and applauds the volunteers who received the award.

“We are delighted that a local volunteer has received this award and been recognised across Northern NSW for the incredible commitment they make to community football,” Millett said.

The March Newcastle Permanent Volunteer of the Month Award recipients from across each of its seven Member Zones are as follows:

Steven Elsworth

Southern Lakes United FC

Macquarie Football

Steve has been with the club this season. He has spent hours on end painting out the clubhouse. He has fixed shelving, storage cupboards as well as being treasurer. Steve also has replanned the grounds for easier marking. He has been a great asset to the club in the short time he has been with us. Southern lakes united is very very lucky to have such a wonderful Committee member like Steve!

Peter Moore

Port Macquarie United

Football Mid North Coast

Peter has been heavily involved in running the club for many years. We are the biggest club on the Mid North Coast and have been challenged in the past few years with the loss of committee members. We were going to lose a large portion of our sporting fields in which he worked hard to ensure 600 of our players still had a ground to run on. Peter has no family still playing in the club but he leads the club in a way that you would think he still plays with his heart on his sleeve.

If things are not right he is happy to see that it is taken to whatever level is required to get it fixed knowing that it may help others as well.

Peter is passionate about our sport, our club and seeing new players come to the sport each year. He promotes the club the development of coaches, referees and player development. He is in support of the junior ladies comp this year with the club submitting 5 teams for the first time into a brand new girls only comp. He has been working with the catholic church to consider their Police boys Program and we are also looking at ways we can promote Aboriginals into the sport which isn’t focused on at this point. As he would say he is all about the sport and less about the colour of the lolly frogs in the canteen.

Steve Mitchell

North Companions Football Club

Northern Inland Football

Steve has only in the recent past taken on the mantle of Club President. Under his stewardship, they have successfully secured nearly $20,000 in funding for ground improvements already. Steve has written and sought many opportunities for his Club. He has led a team that fractured towards the end of the previous stewardship and solidified a core group of willing workers, he leads by example. The Club has now provided its members with a better quality product, better facilities and a plan for further growth.

He has also supported Zone activities by ensuring his Clubs players support representative teams fully and by also attending those games to cheer them on.

George Cassin

Tea Gardens Soccer Club

Newcastle Football

George has been volunteering with the club for 17 years, his enthusiasm is never ending with the following roles:

– Refereeing the under 15’s age group for all 17 years,

– Runs the training for all ages on Wednesdays,

– Runs the training for all ages on Wednesdays,

– Helps with the annual clean up at the beginning and end of the season,

– Helps with line marking throughout the year,

– With his passion of the round ball, he always makes time to encourage players to improve skills,

– Helps with all special event days and much more!

All of this and NEVER asks for a pat on the back. All round legend!

HVF VOM March17 Belinda Johnston Bellbird JFC 3

Belinda Johnston

Bellbird Junior Football Club

Hunter Valley Football

Belinda has been a volunteer with Bellbird for some time now and has held many positions within the clubs committee, including secretary, treasurer and registrar. Some years when committee membership was slow she also organised the canteen. Last year Belinda had no children in the club and held the position of registrar. This year she has remained with the club but is not holding a committee position. Belinda continues to come to the meetings, registration days and has gone above and beyond to offer assistance during the registration and team set-up process.

Mel Hyatt

Westlawn tigers

North Coast Football

This lovely lady goes above and beyond for our team and always does it with a smile on her face. Nothing is ever to hard or a burden for her. Without having Mel as our manager we would be lost.

FFNC-Lisa-Jacka

Lisa Jacka

Dunoon United

Football Far North Coast

Right from the moment Lisa joined the club she has gone above and beyond to help out in every way possible and the whole family play for our club. But it is Lisa’s untiring effort to promote girls and women’s football that really needs to be rewarded. Lisa Jacka has a strong commitment to promoting female football and continues to be a driving force at Dunoon United FC. Although a relatively small club, they proudly boast female participation numbers of more than 40%. Lisa’s influence at Dunoon United FC inspires football activity generally and she helps out in every way possible. Her partner Matt and daughters Cassandra and Gabriella also play football to confirm that this family is very much part of the club. Lisa is an energetic “can do” type person and a worthy recipient of a Newcastle Permanent Volunteer of the Month Award.
