Northern NSW Football is delighted and honoured to have been recognised as the leading sporting organisation significantly contributing to the advancement of women’s sport by the Office of Sport at the 2020 Her Sport, Her Way Awards.
David Eland, CEO of Northern NSW Football said the award is a reflection on the collaborative effort made by all Members of the Northern NSW Football community.
“This recognition from the Office of Sport is reflective of the cooperation of our Member Zones, local clubs and volunteers who champion participation opportunities for women and girls in their communities and can be seen in the ever-increasing presence of women and girls throughout our game.
“I take this opportunity to recognise the expertise and commitment of NNSWF’s Female Participation Officer, Holly Ayton who has worked tirelessly with a myriad of stakeholders to promote and implement opportunities for women and girls to enjoy our great game.
“While a lot of work has been done, the huge influx of women and girls throughout our game has highlighted an acute need for investment in community football facilities. A recent audit of football facilities in NSW revealed that 82% of football facilities do not have change rooms for female players.
“In response, NNSWF in conjunction with partner Member Federation Football NSW will launch a State Infrastructure Strategy in May which will identify and prioritise facility development requirements throughout NSW,” David concluded.
NNSWF support of Women and Girls in the game extends beyond on the pitch with NNSWF being one of few sporting organisations of its size having 40% female representation on its Board of Directors including the first-ever female chair of an FFA Member Federation.
Over the next four years, NNSWF’s priority is to continue increasing female participation, advocating for women in the game and further investment in infrastructure to support the women’s game.
