Region’s best young female footballers attend Talent ID Camp

April 30th, 2019

Last week saw Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) host a player identification camp at the Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility for talented female players in the 14s and 15s age groups.

Players from all over the region came together to put their best foot forward with the hope of being selected in the NNSWF 14 and 15 Years squads for the Girls Nationals in Coffs Harbour in July this year.

The Newcastle Jets Academy have attended previous Westfield National Youth Championships for Girls, but 2019 will be the first year that NNSWF will send teams to participate as well.

Players were identified by NNSWF Coaches and Technical Directors from Premier Competitions and local competitions within the region and NNSWF Technical Advisor Leo Bertos was amazed and impressed at the talent displayed.

“We have a very difficult task to try to select final squads from the talent we had on display last week, which is a compliment to the programs and coaching the players have access to throughout the region,” Bertos said.

Bertos also said it’s important for talented players outside of Academies to have the opportunity to be identified for future national teams as well as Academies.

“We know there are a number of talented female players outside of the Newcastle Jets Academy and it is very important these talented players are still able to have the opportunity to be identified for future national teams as well.

“This also helps these players with the potential opportunity to be identified for the Newcastle Jets Academy too.

“We know at this point in time football is a very popular sport, especially for females, and we hope to see more players from our region progress to be future Matilda’s.”
