Shores United Get New Ground

December 16th, 2016

Investment in football within Byron Shire has received a massive boost with the formal opening of the new North Ocean Shores Sports Field.

The precinct, that boasts a beautiful playing field, state of the art facilities including very generous change rooms design and the most efficient ground lighting currently available in Australia, will be the new home for Shores United SC senior teams from 2017. Fully funded by Byron Shire Council to the tune of almost $2.5m, the new ground and facilities located at the corner of Shara Boulevard and Brunswick Valley Way, is a testament to the vision and commitment of a range of stakeholders.

The process that was initiated through a very well-constructed and collaborative consultation process, has delivered a wonderfully functional design that is appropriate to current and future needs. Shores United SC president Marc Patten had substantially led the voice of football on behalf of his developing club that had outgrown the facilities at New Brighton.

Football Far North Coast acknowledges the enthusiasm and professionalism of Byron Shire Council staff and Councillors, with special mention to Project Officer Nikki Bourke, who brokered meaningful input with Football Far North Coast and Shores United SC throughout the planning phase. The preparedness of Byron Shire Council to listen to its Constituents who had called for an appropriate sporting facility within the Ocean Shores demographic and the evidence of how they effectively managed the delivery of this project, is a credit to all concerned.

The field is not yet named, with Byron Shire Council to give further consideration regarding an appropriate name for the facility.

Congratulations to everyone associated with achieving the delivery of a facility that will give more impetus to the demand for football within the Ocean Shores area.
