Urunga FC defeated Bangalow SC 2-1 in a gripping Westfield FFA contest on Saturday to advance to the NNSWF quarter finals in June. The game was fast and furious, with 30 minutes of extra time required to find a deciding goal.
Urunga FC, led brilliantly by former Goonellabah FC midfielder Kale Hopper, started strongly and found a goal after 8 minutes. Bangalow were right in the contest though and 2015 player of the year Byron Milne found a goal with a great finish to get the score back to parity before half-time.
The game ebbed and flowed but neither side could find the winning goal in normal time. Bluedogs keeper Dean Morgan was outstanding and repelled many dangerous raids by Urunga. A further 30 minutes of time was required after the full-time whistle and most of that was needed before Urunga found the goal that would see them advance in the competition.
Both teams are congratulated on an entertaining game, played in warm conditions. Urunga FC have earned a place in the NNSWF quarter finals to be played at the Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facilities on 19th June.
Football Far North Coast hopes that local clubs will show interest in nominating for the 2017 competition and a chance to progress to an opportunity to play teams from other zones and teams from the Newcastle League.
