Football paid its respects to the extraordinary contribution made by Australian servicemen and women over more than a century, when six finals of the respective Tursa Employment & Training Anzac Day Cup and Callan McMillan Memorial Shield Finals for 2023 were contested.
The football was entertaining and despite some inclement weather at times from Friday to Sunday, the only Final that was unable to proceed last weekend, was the 16’s match between Alstonville FC and Bangalow SC, that will now proceed this Thursday night. We applaud the respective teams and clubs that participated in a Final and congratulations to the winning teams. FFNC also acknowledges the match officials who officiated in a Final.

Thanks again to long term strategic partner Tursa Employment and Training for the continued support of community football. Thanks also to patrons who made a donation to Legacy and FFNC has also pledged an amount to support the outstanding work that Legacy does. The Finals were the culmination of the respective prestigious competitions, with the Anzac Day Cup (first contested in 1950 as the Anzac Cup) and the Callan McMillan Memorial Shield (first contested in 1978).
Although circumstances prevent the scheduling of every final at a central location, we hope that these competitions will help to celebrate football across our community, after several challenging years, as we continue to navigate a way forward. As Anzac Day approaches this year, may we be inspired by the spirit and memory of the brave women and men who gave selflessly of themselves through various wars, so that we may be able to now live in peace.
