March 13th, 2024

Northern NSW Football (NNSWF), in conjunction with Football Australia (FA), is facilitating an advanced coaching course to provide a rare opportunity for Football Far North Coast (FFNC) coaches, to gain important qualifications and guidance to become a more effective coach. NNSWF Technical Director Ryan Doidge is leading the five day course (over two weekends) at the Cavanbah Centre, Ewingsdale.

The course is a mix of practical and theoretical principles of football, that is considered as being a critical step in providing a pathway and skills that enable a coach to progress from grassroots to advanced coaching accreditation. An intensive schedule of activities over five days, ultimately leading to a formative assessment of the competency of each candidate, includes the following items;

  1. The technical aspects of the game, including teaching the basics of passing and receiving, dribbling with the ball, goal-scoring as well as defending strategies;
  2. The principles of coaching and comprehension of the principles of play in and out of possession; and
  3. Around the concept of teaching behaviours using various sorts of practice methods

Doidge said that the engagement and football knowledge of each of the seventeen participants at the Ewingsdale course, has impressed him. Doidge stated, “I believe that this is a great chance to provide opportunities to all coaches across our region and help strengthen the relationship between NNSWF and FFNC.” He further commented, “This type of activity in the FFNC region demonstrates a solidarity between stakeholders.”

FFNC General Manager Steve Mackney highlighted the range of coaching opportunities and supporting roles that exist, from MiniRoos to senior teams. He urges coaches to register online ‘as a coach’ for season 2024 and to refer to coach headquarters as one resource to find strategies relevant to being a leader and mentor of players and teams.
