Football Called Off This Weekend

March 31st, 2017

Football Far North Coast has determined that ALL football scheduled for this weekend (31 March – 2 April) has been POSTPONED.

Widespread flooding in the region overnight that includes major inundation in towns such as Lismore, Mullumbimby, Kyogle and Woodburn has many roads closed, thousands of residents left isolated or evacuated from their homes and is now impacting on normal activity within our communities.

Our view is that SAFETY is paramount and we support the urgings of the SES and other authorities appealing for residents to STAY HOME until the water subsides. Although the rain has abated, flood waters are still rising in many areas with MAJOR flooding to occur later today and tomorrow (subject to the flow of floodwaters down river over several days) and regardless of an anticipated improving situation over the weekend, FFNC has assessed that a decision to POSTPONE ALL FOOTBALL is an appropriate one and hence the advice this morning.

We urge people to stay off the roads and STAY SAFE!!!

Information regarding re-scheduled fixtures will be disclosed when FFNC has an opportunity to consider the options. We note that this will take many days to work through the already “backed up” season schedule. Information from respective member clubs over coming days is requested to assist or understanding of “next” likely readiness of fields for play? As an example, the ground at Kyogle FC is currently under several metres of water!!!

Our thoughts are with all residents affected by the flooding in the region.
