The devastation of the floods on the Far North Coast and North Coast are front of mind at Northern NSW Football.

The red circle shows the location of Lismore Workers FC’s clubhouse, which is totally submerged.

While the full impact on football clubs is not yet known, we are aware of the dire situation that is being faced across many parts of our region. Your safety and the safety of your family, friends and community are the most important things right now.

NNSWF Chair Helene O’Neill said the northern NSW football community were right behind those affected.

“We know the devastation is well beyond damaged infrastructure and lost equipment. Some members of the football community have lost everything,” O’Neill said.

“We want to assure everyone affected in the Football Far North Coast and North Coast Football regions that you are a vital member of our football family. And NNSWF will be there to tangibly assist clubs to restore their facilities and get back on the pitch when the time is right.

“Stay strong. Our thoughts are with you during this most difficult time.”

NNSWF will work alongside Football Far North Coast, North Coast Football and Football Australia to seek tangible assistance from all levels of government.

“Football is the furthest thing from anyone’s mind,” Football Far North Coast General Manager Steve Mackney said.

“Everyone is feeling a bit numb at the moment. The region has experienced significant devastation.”

North Coast Football General Manager Andrew Woodward said he recognised the gravity of the situation.

“If we’ve learned anything from the last two years with the global pandemic, it is that football will return and do it well when everyone is ready,” Woodward said.

“We must never forget that clubs are run by volunteers who do what they do for the love of the game and their communities.

“Often they work long and hard for their game and communities. Right now we want them to focus on themselves, their families, their community and their work.

“Sport has a unique ability to bring communities together. Its resumption will be a clear signal that the community is on the mend.”

If your club needs assistance, you can reach out to Northern NSW Football via phone (02 4941 7200) or email (reception@northernnswfootball.com.au).
