Northern NSW Football has created a new role to help improve education and development of community referees across the member federation.
Riley Kirkaldy has been appointed to the Referee Education and Development Co-Ordinator role and hit the ground running, holding an online presentation for Northern NSW Football’s seven member zones earlier this month.
The meeting outlined Kirkaldy’s new role to the member zones and local referee branches, which has been implemented to assist with the coaching and education of community level match officials.
Kirkaldy will be an extra resource travelling throughout northern NSW to help develop consistency in refereeing, assessing and coaching and to further raise the standard of officiating in the regional zones as well as the Hunter.
Kirkaldy will lead or help run monthly coaching sessions and will attend as many introductory Level 4 Referee Courses as possible in each zone, either as the lead instructor or to help existing instructors.
This approach will set a consistent standard for how courses and coaching sessions are run.
Northern NSW Football Referee Manager Brad Carlin said the initial meeting had been a great success and was enthusiastic about the benefits the Referee Education and Development Co-Ordinator role would have on new and existing match officials throughout northern NSW.
“The reception to Riley’s presentation has been really positive and appreciative,” Carlin said.
“Our member zones and local referee branches are pleased that a dedicated resource has been introduced for their community match officials. Most of the regional zones have already come back to us and locked in dates for courses and pre-season seminars.
“They seem keen to get the ball rolling which is going to be great for the education and development of our community match officials moving forward.”
